16 year-old Robert “The Rocklin Rocket” Ballou enters the 2006 with a
bold new look to his sprint car, a new crew chief, and in
a new series.
Ballou and his Don-Ott
Racing Engines powered 2006 Maxim Chassis sprint car will
take to the track this weekend in the debut of the
National Sprint Tour at the Tulare Thunderbowl in Tulare,
CA. “I feel that we have prepared ourselves over the
winter and should come out strong,” Ballou said.
The race will mark the
opener for Ballou Motorsports in an ambitious 410 sprint
car effort. Last season in the 360 sprint car ranks,
Ballou grabbed three wins and finished third in the
California Sprint Car Civil War points.
This season Ballou is
eyeing the 2006 Golden State Challenge Series
championship. Ballou hopes to build off of his 2005
feature win the in the Golden State series that made him
the series’ youngest winner in history. Ballou carries a
winning tradition into 2006, with 202 career wins and over
20 championships since he began racing at the age of five.
Ballou Motorsports is proud
to announce Darin Smith as the crew chief for the 2006
efforts. “We have been friends for a long time and with
his knowledge and our great communication we should work
together well,” Ballou said.
