CHICO,
CA (5-12-06) - Brent
Kaeding came into this weekend trying to get a victory
for the first time in 2006. He accomplished this goal by
winning an exciting main event on Friday night at Silver
Dollar Speedway. Kaeding passed Robert
Ballou with two laps to go and got the win.
Ballou finished a strong second followed by point’s
leader of the Feather Falls Casino Friday Night Series
Sean Becker. Andy Forsberg came home in fourth while
Stephen Allard was fifth. Allard and Brad Sweet each
earned the hard charger award of the night by passing 11
total cars. Allard came from 16th to fifth while Sweet
started 20th and finished ninth.
A record number of winged
sprint cars graced the Silver Dollar Speedway pit area.
A total of 44 drivers entered the night with 43 making
it out for qualifying. Chico’s Jonathan Allard
recorded his third fast time award in row by turning an
11.948.
Ballou
started on the front along side Garrett Ishii. Ballou
led the first few laps as Kaeding battled around Ishii
for second. A yellow flag slowed the event when Billy
Wallace and Colby Weisz crashed in turn one on lap six.
On the restart, Ballou
went to the bottom and Kaeding to the top. Coming out of
turn two Kaeding was the new leader. Also passing Ballou
was Jonathan Allard. The red came out on lap
11 when Johnny Gray got upside down.
This set up what was
going to be a shoot out between Allard and Kaeding.
However, on the restart Allard jumped the cushion and
lost many spots. Ballou
moved back into second while Forsberg emerged into
third. Sean Becker crept his way up to the fourth spot.
On lap 13 Ballou caught Kaeding and passed the 12-time
champ for the lead. Ballou
began to extend his lead until slower cars caused Ballou
to decide which way to go. Enter Kaeding back into the
picture. With two laps to go Kaeding drove around Ballou
on the outside and led the final half-mile for the win.
Becker moved around Forsberg for third. Stephen Allard
bested his brother by one spot to finish fifth. Jason
Statler was seventh, Ishii eighth, Sweet ninth and Chuck
Gurney Jr. tenth.
The victory earned
Kaeding a $2,350 payday thanks to Chico Mobile AC and
Radiator and Fry’s Metals. It was an exciting night of
tight racing at electrifying speeds. In the end it was
the veteran Kaeding leading the youngster’s Ballou,
17-years old and Becker, 23-years old, to the checkered
flag.
Forsberg led all 12 laps
to win the nights B main event. Johnny Gray was second.
Doug Lippincott finished third. Sweet passed Dennis
Moore Jr. on the last turn of the race to secure the
fourth and final transfer.
Tony Silveria led all 10
laps in the night’s C main event. Pat Harvey was
second and the final transfer into the B main.
Jonathan Allard came from
the outside of row three to win the Nor Cal Performance
heat one. Stephen Allard was the winner in heat two.
Peter Murphy led wire to wire in heat three. Colby Weisz
led all eight laps to win heat four.
