Weekend Of Highs & Lows At Chico
by Gary Costa
May 16th, 2006...After a strong but disappointing run at Placerville Speedway two days earlier, The Ballou Motorsports team headed to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Ca to do battle against California's finest for back-to-back shows on the weekend.

Friday was Chico's weekly 410 show, and Saturday was The Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.

On Friday, 45 Winged Sprint Cars timed in. The John Ballou owned, and the Darin Smith & Matt Gliko wrenched Maxim timed in an impressive 14th, after being the first car to take time.

"The Rocklin Rocket" transfered through Heat 2, with a 3rd place finish, which was stacked with 11 cars.

In the main event The Ballou Motorsports #12 rocketed into the lead. The main event picked up intensity as Brent Kaeding made an outside pass, and Jonathan Allard followed.

A red for an upside down Johnny Gray was to set up drama for the final 9 laps of the feature.

When the green waved Robert was not done fighting. He passed Allard, then Kaeding.

The Don Ott Racing Engine was screaming for mercy as Robert started to pull away. But veteran "BK" was back again, and passed Robert with a handful of laps to go in a truly exciting main event.

Robert also drove the Brian Brown #95 Eagle Chassis in Spec-Sprint action. Robert was leading and pulling away in the semi, when the engine let go.

Look for Robert back in this ride again soon.

The next night was a completely different night for us. Friday we were hoping to bring the previous nights good fortune with us on Saturday, but it was not to be.

We didn't qualify too well, which immediately put us behind the 8-ball, and we didn't transfer out of our heat.

We ran away with the "C" Main. And we were actually doing well in the "B", but we ran out of laps and missed the prestigious event.

That's racing, and we of course thank all of our loyal supporters stopping by the trailer over the weekend.

We will be at Tulare's Thunderbowl Speedway this Saturday May, 20th for Golden State Challenge Series action. We are currently 7th in the point standings.

Ballou Motorsports would like to thank: The fans, Gardemeyer Finish Carpentry, THR & Sons, Gliko Hardware & Construction, SCHLAGE, Kaeding Performance, MPD, Swimming Pool Perfection’s, A1A Performance Mufflers, NAAKE Suspension Specialists, and Don Ott Racing Engines
