year-old Robert Ballou finished off this past weekend
with a solid second place finish behind Jon Stanbrough
at North Vernon's Twin Cities Raceway Park on Saturday
night. The defending Golden State Challenge Series
Rookie of the Year started the feature from the fifth
position and carved his way forward to battle up to the
top spot late in the race before coming home runner-up
in the King of Indiana Sprint Series sanctioned event.
Robert began the night by
driving from fifth to third in the opening heat race
aboard the MPHG Promotions, Gardemeyer - Finish -
Carpentry, THR & Sons No. 81 Maxim. Starting the
main event from the inside of row three, Robert battled
forward during the race and on lap 22 he drove the
Circle Racing Wheels, Gliko Hardware & Construction,
A.R.T. Ent, Swimming Pools Perfections No. 81 around
Shane Hollingsworth & Kyle Cummins to move into
second.
Robert then closed in on
the leader and on a lap 27 restart he slid to the inside
of Stanbrough to take the lead, but as they raced off of
the second corner Stanbrough was able to get back by.
The youngster kept his composure and drove the last
couple laps smoothly to bring the Don Ott Racing
Engines, BSA, Schlage, Pro Shocks, Maxim Chassis No. 81
home in second. "I made a mistake off of turn two
and let Stanbrough get back by. He did a great job but I
just messed up and let it get away from me," Robert
said.
Robert and the MPHG
Promotions, Ballou Motorsports team were also in action
with KISS on Friday night at the Gas City I-69 Speedway.
The 18 year-old finished fourth in his heat race and
15th in the main event to kick off the KISS season.
The USAC National Sprint
Car Series hits a busy week of action beginning this
Saturday at the Terre Haute Action Track with the
running of the 37th annual Tony Hulman Classic. Robert
goes into the night sixth in the current USAC National
Sprint Car Series point standings.
Next Tuesday and
Wednesday will see a pair of USAC National Sprint Car
Series make up dates from previous rain outs. On Tuesday
Robert will be in action with USAC at the Twin Cities
Raceway Park in North Vernon, Indiana and Wednesday
he'll be at the Anderson Speedway for the Glen Neibel
Classic.
