Ballou sweeps TNT Sprint Bandits weekend at Lakeside Speedway
By Gary Thomas

Kansas City, Kan - August 21, 2007...After winning his second career Sprint Bandits Tour ‘N Topless main event on Thursday night in Oklahoma, 18 year-old Robert Ballou came back strong during the weekend scoring a two-day sweep at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. Saturday’s victory was worth a sweet $10,000 and gave him a share of the Sprint Bandits TNT Midwest Swing title with Tim Kaeding.

The action at Lakeside got underway on Friday and Robert brought home a win in his heat race and third in the qualifier race to put himself solidly into the 25 lap feature. The Rocklin, California native was on the hammer and took the lead on lap eight aboard the MPHG Promotions, Circle Racing Wheels, THR & Sons, Schlage No. 81. From there on out there were no worries, with the exception of a hole in the radiator hose, but it wasn’t major and Robert went on to pick up his second Sprint Bandits win in a row and third of his career.

With the victory on Friday night it locked Robert into the 30 lap Ron Shuman Classic main event on Saturday. Starting from the pole he jumped out into the early lead and never looked back, even without the benefit of having brakes after lap nine. The talented youngster led every lap of 30 lap feature and took the checkered flag to score his third straight Sprint Bandits TNT victory aboard the Gardemeyer Finish Carpentry, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, Gliko Hardware & Construction, Swimming Pool Perfections No. 81.

A strong week with three wins, a fourth and an eighth place finish was enough to tie Tim Kaeding for the Tour ‘N Topless championship. It’s pretty impressive for a couple California drivers that came from the winged sprint ranks to come out and tie for the Sprint Bandits TNT Midwest Swing title. Robert took home $2,000 for the week long points fund to put a cap on one the most impressive weeks of his young sprint car career.
